7 Important Things to Know When Designing a New House
The
process of designing a new house has evolved greatly. Dealing with extreme
weather conditions to make the best possible use of lands and plots, even the
architect has to consider so many things while designing a new house. If you
are in the process of house designing for your family and you are wondering
about what are the important things you should know then continue reading.
Today
in this post, I am talking about the top 11 and most crucial things to consider
when designing a new house.
1. Design for the family
It’s
easy to get carried away when designing a new house for your family. However,
as a homeowner, your priority should be the space requirements of your family.
Forget about everything else, and just focus on the current and future space
requirements of your family members. So whatever you choose to do with your house
designs, just make sure to consider the key requirements of your family.
2.
Consider construction cost
Given
a chance, anyone building a house would want to add all the glossy and modern
features like upscale marbles, costly tiles and what not. But, the premium and
luxury comes at a cost and therefore you should consider the construction cost
seriously when designing a new house. Constructing a house is a time taking
process and if you run out of money in the middle, then things can quickly go
out of control. And that’s the last thing you would want, no?
3.
Current and future space needs
Deciding
the number of bedrooms, bathrooms etc can be really difficult when designing a
new house for your family. Should you have a storage room attached to the
kitchen or rather make provision for a study room? Taking these decisions may
not be easy at times and therefore you should think mindfully. Think of your
immediate and future space requirements and then divide the floor space to get
all the rooms and spaces you need.
4.
Make dynamic spaces
When
in doubt, think of multi functional spaces. Design a room in such a way that it
can be used in multiple ways as per needs and requirements. For instance, the
study room can easily be transformed into a work from home office. Similarly,
the terrace space can easily be converted into an extra bedroom in future. So
think of creating multi functional spaces to accommodate your future space
requirements.
5.
Choose right floor plan concept
Although
there are people who like open concept house floor plans,
there are many who believe that open floor plan concept is not for everyone.
Even the architects and interior designers seem divided on this. However, you
should evaluate your priorities and functional needs and accordingly choose the
floor plan concept. Although, open floor plan concept looks spacious and well
ventilated, you have to compromise with privacy to an extent. So think through
well and choose a floor plan concept that you think will work well for your
family.
6.
Think of lighting and ventilation
While
we are discussing the floor plan concepts, it is important for you to consider
the natural lighting and ventilation in your house. Use the open space wisely
and keep provisions for larger size doors and windows so that the house does
not look suffocating. A properly lit and ventilated living room can uplift your
mood. Also, if you don’t allow natural lights in your house, then you have to
switch on the lights even during the day. So think of natural lights and proper
ventilations when designing a new house.
7.
Make most of the space
Last
but not the least, use a lot of space wisely. The price of land is already
touching the sky, and thus you can’t really afford to waste any space.
Brainstorm different floor plan layout, leave some open space as per the local
building guides and then make the best use of remaining plot space.
The
